At one point in my childhood I wanted to be a cosmetologist. I practiced my “skills” by braiding my sister’s hair and even asked for a Barbie doll head for Christmas so I could practice more. While I chose a different career route, I still love beauty and hair. I want to bring some occasional columns that are a little different to the blog to mix it up from the usual home decor and DIY. There is more to my life than just decorating (believe it or not ;)) so I want to share that with you.
I’m the first to ask about others’ beauty secrets and skincare routines. I’m always looking for new products to try since I have yet to find a regime that works perfectly for me. My skin is oily and breakout prone (fun fun) so keeping my skin clear is number one. Because I use benzoyl peroxide to help with breakouts, my skin can get flaky and dry. Finding a moisturizer that isn’t too heavy that will break me out but isn’t too light I still have dry patches is rare. None of my moisturizers were working so I walked into Sephora and asked one of the helpful ladies to recommend a water-based night time moisturizer. Usually I’m leery taking store a associate’s recommendation because I don’t know their skin type etc., but I was desperate. She suggested Dr. Jart+ Water-Max Sleeping Max, a moisturizer she uses personally. I had never even heard of Dr. Jart+ products before. I’m big on research and usually spend hours looking into products and reading reviews before purchasing. When the woman explained the moisturizer as a leave on gel-like mask that soaks in immediately I knew I had to at least give it a try.
The moisturizer is just as she described. It’s a lightweight gel-like lotion that is not greasy and soaks quickly into the skin. This is key for me since I layer benzoyl peroxide on top, so I need the moisturizer to absorb and not just wipe off. After using it for about three weeks I can truly say my skin looks and feels better in the morning . Overall it’s more hydrated, even, and no more dry skin! It’s spendy, but definitely the best moisturizer I’ve used.
What’s your favorite moisturizer?
