They say half way to meeting your goals is writing them down…
I’ve set some lofty goals for myself personally and professionally and for this blog.
This year I’ve taken a new approach for goal-setting. I’m notorious for writing out a huge to-do list every day and never crossing everything off because the list wasn’t realistic for a day’s work. It’s frustrating and then I question whether I’m working hard enough. And then I feel overwhelmed about how little time I have. And then I get stressed out.
I’ve done some research on goal-setting and while everyone has their personal preferences, I’m choosing to focus on one big goal for the entire year (one for personally and professionally and blog) with sub-goals that lead to the main big goal. By focusing on one main goal for the year, you can give it your full attention and go all in. From experience, if I have too many things on my plate or projects I’m juggling, none of them get done. My hope is this shift gives me more focus and opens my schedule so I can do the necessary things to meet my goal and just that. No more working on 5 different projects and not finishing one by the end of the year. It doesn’t mean all my other projects get thrown out, it just means I’ll tackle them another year.
I will feel less stressed, more productive and actually meet my goals. At least that’s my hope.
Today I’m going to share my goals for the blog and what you can expect in 2016.
My one big goal for the blog this year is to grow. I want to help more people understand their decor style, decorate a home their proud of, and save money while doing it.
While you may be thinking it’s super vague, I do have some specific sub-goals to keep me on track along the way.
Growing the blog is not only important so I can justify the time spent, but it also challenges myself to try new projects and even refine my own decor style.
Changes for 2016:
Rework Blog Categories
One of my main focuses for 2016 is consistently writing high quality content you guys enjoy. I will be focusing on 5 main categories with sub-topics for each. I will add them to the top navigation bar making it easier for you to find what you’re looking for.
The categories will be:
- DIY Projects
- Our Home
- Decorating 101
- Budget Tips
- Home Tips
When life gets busy it’s easy for me to skip a day (or 4) of blogging. I want to strive for a consistent schedule and that means getting ahead on content so if I do choose to relax on Saturday afternoon instead work on another project, my blog schedule won’t get behind. I’m aiming for 2-3 posts per week.
I’m a bit of a neat freak and find myself constantly going through closets and drawers getting rid of the old or unused. When I had to buy another tub for our Christmas decor I got uneasy thinking about fitting it into our already small storage area in the basement. That’s when I decided to simplify our home and only bring in things we love and need. I’m selling a few extra decor items we no longer need so we have less “stuff” sitting around. I’m loving the simpleness in our living room already. Throughout the year I’ll share my organization tips and how to simplify your home with a decorating process that eliminates extra stuff – and saves money!
Budget is my number one factor. I have big financial goals for 2016 to pay off my car and 70% of my student loans so any home projects will be done on a small budget. I consider myself pretty savvy when it comes to budgets and finding great deals so I want to be better about sharing them with you being transparent in sharing the costs of home projects.
I’d like to introduce an email newsletter at some point in 2016. There are some topics and little tidbits that don’t necessarily warrant a whole blog post but are still useful that I want to share with you via an email newsletter. If that sounds interesting you can get on the list here.
Looking back I did a terrible job showing you the process I use when decorating and giving progress updates before a reveal. I will share my step by step decorating process with you along with more updates along the way so you can see the progression.
I hope you’re as excited about what’s to come as I am!
Now, I’d love YOU to share what you most want me to blog about in 2016.
