We all have ’em (except my parents who refuse to get cable TV). Ugly cable or modem boxes taking up precious real estate on our TV stands. Since getting rid of it and not watching the housewives is out of question, I created a way to hide the cable box using old books. It’s seriously SO simple and you can all do this in a few short minutes! Let’s get to it.
First, go to your local thrift store in search of books. You can get books for around $2 and not feel bad about cutting them up. Our cable box is extra large, so no books were actually big enough to cover the entire thing so I had to use a couple different books. When choosing them, make sure to take in to consideration the color of the book’s binding and the title. There were a lot of interesting titles at Goodwill I wouldn’t necessarily want sitting on my bookshelf. Next, take your book and cut out the pages with an x-acto knife so you are only left with the front and back cover and use it to cover your cable box. That’s it!
The largest book I found was a hardcover so I used the outside paper cover instead of cutting out the pages. Since our box was too large for any of the books I found, I needed two more books to cover the remaining corner of the cable box that still showed. To do so, I took the outside paper cover of another hardcover, and cut out the bottom edge to tape onto the exposed box corner. Then I had to “fill” the paper cover with two other books.
You can customize your cover to fit the size of your box. And for those wondering, the remote still works perfectly for our cable :)
