Need to catch up on my makeover progress?
The One Room Challenge got the best of me and I’m finally revealing my room makeover. I’m pretty happy with the results and so glad to be done. I hope you like it!
Remember when the room looked like this? With just a few additions and some rearranging, the room now looks completely different! It’s amazing what a little love (and time) can do.
First, my sister painted the walls a beautiful pale pinkish cream. You can’t see how pretty it is in photos, but it’s the perfect balance of white, pink, and cream. I’m a white walls girl, but this color is definitely a new favorite. We wanted the room to function as a guest room, but also a cozy place to relax and read. It gets incredible sunlight during the day so I wanted to capitalize on that and make the space feel bright and colorful. I rearranged the room and love how the new arrangement really opens up the space and makes it feel inviting.
The futon, wardrobe, and bookshelf we already had. I brought in the storage ottomans, velvet, printed, and yellow pillows, and a throw to add a little color and cozy up the room. My sister really wanted a gallery wall and I’m so glad we went with a black and white theme. I hung the gallery wall using a little trick that worked out nicely. After a disappointing rug choice, I returned it and ended up getting this fluffy white rug from RugsUSA. It is so soft and the size works much better! Usually I say to buy a rug larger, but in such a small room a bigger rug felt too crammed.
To solve the storage issue, I got a hamper to hide most of what was in plastic totes. When the futon is folded up, there is room to store a few things behind it too. There is still storage on top of the wardrobe in plastic totes, but it needed to be sealable and I haven’t come across a better solution.
You can see all I added was a few items and it made a world of a difference to the overall look and feel of the room! It’s a small space but definitely functional.
