I am so excited to participate in my first One Room Challenge! If you aren’t familiar with it, Linda from Calling It Home started it years back as a way to encourage bloggers to redecorate a room in their house they’ve been putting off forever. What’s better motivation than a group of bloggers and a designated day each week to share progress? The ORC was such a hit she kept doing it, and now it’s open for anybody! So I decided to join the fun. The challenge lasts six weeks, so every Thursday I’ll be posting updates on my progress. Since I’m living with my sister right now, she agreed to let me decorate a room in her house. I’m tackling the guest/reading room. It needs to function as a place to sleep (since it’s my room for the time being) as well as a relaxing reading nook with lots of storage. One thing you should know is that the room is TINY. Like 8×10 feet. So while that may sound like good news because that means less space to decorate, it also provides its own set of challenges since there is a lot to fit in such a small room.
Here are the before photos. Before I moved in, the room was used for storage. Most of the stuff was moved to the garage, the walls have been painted and new curtains hung. As you can see, there is still a big need for hidden storage. The layout is tricky too because all the furniture must stay.
I asked my sister what her must-haves for the space are and here’s what she came up with:
– comfortable place to relax and read
– lots of storage
– gallery wall
So far, here’s my inspiration. The room has tons of natural light, so I want to make it bright, colorful, and cozy. I’m still trying to figure out the layout and storage. Let me know if you have any good ideas! Wish me luck :)
I’ll be pinning to my One Room Challenge pin board for the next 6 weeks so feel free to check it out. Head on over to Calling It Home today, look at other bloggers’ ORC before photos, and get inspired!
