If you want to love your home, learn how to decorate it, and spend less time stressing about it and more time enjoying it…
YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
I started this blog in 2013 as a way to share my DIY projects and updates as I decorated my college apartment. As I hopped around from college apartment to apartment, to when I jetted away to San Francisco for my first full-time job, to when we moved into our first house, I shared all kinds of decorating tips and DIY projects to help make my space my own. Over the years, I played around with many different decorating styles, but I struggled to settle on just one that truly felt like me. I was starting to get burned out of decorating and I wanted to find happiness in my home again through simpler decorating techniques that required less time and money.
So I did lots of experimenting until I found something that worked.
My mission is to inspire passionate women to find joy in their homes through simplified decorating and organizing methods, creating a place they love and allowing them time to live more.
Let’s rewind for a sec and let me explain decorating burnout…
It was the end of 2014 and I just quit (yep) my dream job in San Francisco so I could be closer to my boyfriend and start our life in our home state of Iowa. After buying a house, I did what anyone would do – begin decorating. Without much of a plan, I started buying stuff to fill the house so we could start our life together. Frequently browsing Target to see what’s on sale and reading all the magazines to see what coffee table books and other decor I “needed.”
As the seasons changed, it was time to switch out the summer decor and bring on fall. So back to shopping I was.
Instead of enjoying our new home, I was worried about what decorating move I would make next and where I could find cheap coffee table books. And the worst part? As our home slowly came together, something felt off…
I didn’t even like it.
The furniture felt a little mismatched and cluttered. I had decorations everywhere so we couldn’t actually use the coffee table without moving stuff. I didn’t even like the throw pillows anymore. Somewhere along the line I got off track. I had just spent all that time and energy and money on decorating, and now I didn’t even like it.
As I was packing away Christmas decor I knew something had to change. I was getting anxious just thinking about the 2 new totes I bought to store our decorations, and how storage space was quickly filling up.
I needed to decorate with intention based on our lifestyle and how we actually use our home. I don’t want a kitchen full of stuff we didn’t use. Or Christmas decor that’s on display for one month of the year taking up all our storage space. I wanted to spend my time enjoying our home and not stressfully decorating it.
I had to do something. I didn’t want to constantly stress about decorating our home anymore. I wanted it done, but I wanted it done right. So I set out to find a way to simplify decorating and ensure I love the result. And you know what? I found a way.
Now, I spend less time and money on decorating. I don’t make costly mistakes. But best of all, I love my home. I created a system that works for me and now I want to share it with you.
